This blog has been documenting the creation of a unique piece of wall art for an upcoming Sydney textile show. Freeform crochet or knit contributions were sought worldwide, for a collaborative artwork to be exhibited at Fibrefest, June 17-21, 2015, in conjunction with the Craft & Quilt Fair at Glebe Island, Sydney, Australia. All the 'scrumbles' have now arrived, but you will be able to continue to watch the progress here. Enjoy!

These mine!!!6th photo down, top left of the "Face". Great work to all and especially to Prudence for having the patience to put it all together.
ReplyDeleteI'm amazed Prudence. 206 contributors, and then you joining the pieces together to make a unified work of art. Different countries and cultures together in unity through art touches me profoundly. It makes me recall something that Maire Treanor said to me a couple years ago...'it's not the people that makes the countries look bad, it's the governments'. I will never forget that because it is so true. I like to think that my little piece is touching another nation as another nation is touching me...like holding hands. I love each one of the contributors deeply that goes beyond words.
ReplyDeleteWow!!! Just Awesome!!!
ReplyDeleteIt is amazingly beautiful. Great job putting it all together Prudence.
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to see it - tell me it will come to Adelaide!
ReplyDeleteWoot, woot, I found my piece in your creation Prudence! I am thrilled. It is an honor to have a little something in one of your works of art. Thanks and job well done!
ReplyDeleteThat looks absolutely fabulous. Would it be coming to Melbourne for those of us down here to see?
ReplyDeleteThanks all...and yes, Joy, it will be travelling to a few more Aussie shows...next month to Launceston first, and then to Melbourne
ReplyDeleteI found my piece!! It is Awesome. Thanks again Prudence!!!
ReplyDeleteThanks again Prudence for so enormous and fantastic work.!!!
ReplyDeleteWhat an amazing piece - I'm breathless with admiration and wonder; I hope everyone involved is buzzing with pride and joy
ReplyDeleteOnce again, thanks to everyone for their comments, but most especially to James, one of the first freeformers! I'm sure each and every crocheter involved in the project will be thrilled to know that you took the time to look...and that you found our piece impressive.
ReplyDeleteThere are plans afoot to have the work tour widely (and eventually 'world-widely')...not only to shows but also in galleries. I'll post the details as the venues and dates are confirmed...but to start it on its travels, the next couple of showings will still be in Australia - in July, at the Craft & Quilt Fairs in both Launceston, Tasmania, and Melbourne, Victoria.
Once I finally get caught up with all the other stuff that was put aside and didn't get done while the stitching-up was happening...(and yes, there still does seem to be quite a bit to catch up on - but I'm definitely not complaining; maybe just getting a bit slower with the more mundane stuff in my 'old age'!)...I will eventually post more photos...so stay tuned ;-)
Once in a while you discover someone who inspires you. Once in a while you discover someone who has great passion. Once in a while you discover someone who is ingenious and unique.
ReplyDeleteJames Walters and Prudence Mapstone.... I am so happy that I discovered you.
